Feedback

"Your booklet and titles are wonderful! Hope to work with you in the future!"   —Naples Philharmonic Orchestra

"The Supertitles were awesome! Thank you for all your help."   —Director of Artistic Operations, Kansas City Symphony Orchestra

"The supertitles were fabulous. Very good work. Many people commented on their appropriateness."    —Allan Pollack, Director, Mendocino Music Festival

"You were an invaluable asset—from providing an excellent contemporary translation of the piece to determining how the difficult overlapping quality of the passages could be clarified for our audience."   —Lary B. Etten, Stage Director for South Dakota Symphony Orchestra's La Boheme

We were thrilled that the Cleveland Orchestra, after examining several translations, chose TastefulTitles.com for their Carmina Burana supertitles!

Supertitles for Vocal
Works with Orchestra

Why 'Titles?'

Projected supertitles keep your audience in touch with what is happening in the music. Though disdained by a few purists, supertitles are immensely popular with a large majority of audience members. The best endorsement we have seen is this one by Henry Fogle, former president of the League of American Orchestras.

We provide supertitles as a PowerPoint (.ppt) file*, which you may edit if needed. Two-line text is rendered in Arial Bold font, white on black background. Black slides are included for orchestral interludes. Jay Reeve

A cued, loose-leaf, piano/vocal score is clearly marked for easy synchronization. Repeats are given in-line, so no turning back is required. We think our scores, with text and slide numbers printed above colored cue markers, are the clearest and easiest-to-use in the business.

Why 'Tasteful?'

Carmina Burana's racy medieval text demands a judicious touch from the translator. Too direct, and you may risk offending patrons' sensibilities. Too restrained, and you may lose the earthy flavor. TastefulTitles' translation achieves a fine balance—never offending, but artistically preserving the sense of the original.

The Orff was our first project, and the inspiration for our supertitles business. Our catalog has now grown to over 30 titles including major operas, oratorios, choral symphonies, songs, and individual arias.

For opera and other major works, we don't simply pull a book off the shelf. We'll work with you or your stage director to make sure our slides and our translation correspond to what you're putting on stage.

We'll send your cue book via Priority Mail to arrive about two weeks prior to your production. We include a prepaid shipping label for you to return the book after your last performance.

Supertitle slides can be formatted as a PowerPoint file, as jpeg images, or as any other format you might need. They will usually be sent electronically to arrive about the same time as the cue book.

Don't see your piece in our catalog? We're constantly expanding our selection as we add new works requested by our customers. Let us know what you're planning—with adequate lead time—and we'll get it ready for you. We can use an existing translation for which you have rights, or make a fresh, modern translation that brings new life to classic libretti.

Worried about the cost? Patrons are often eager to cover the expense of supertitles, but we also want to make sure smaller organizations have access to our services, so we offer a 1/3 discount for school ensembles, for ensembles with annual budgets under $300,000, and for free concerts without commercial sponsorship.
